Whether your business is small or large, it is important that you take the time to arrange for a comfortable and positive office work environment for all your employees. And because the work environment entails more than just cubicles, desks, chairs, and couches, make sure you have appropriate decor and organic furnishings. Here are some tips to help you set up a great work environment for your office staff.
Buy or Lease Workstations
Depending on the setup of your office space, you may already have individual offices within the building to provide a work area for each of your office employees. If your office space is an open area, you will need to buy or lease cubicle walls to form the framework for each of your employee workstations. The workstations your employees use will help create privacy for their client work, and help muffle workstation noises from computers, phones, and noisy staplers.
Make sure the cubicles come with an adjustable height desk and desk drawers to store office supplies, files, and personal items. And many types of office desk drawers come with available locks so your employees can keep their client information safe and confidential.
Select Health-Promoting Office Chairs
Your office staff will also need the right type of ergonomic office furniture to help them comfortably sit at their desk during work hours. Your office chairs should adjust in seat height and arm rest height, along with having an adjustable backrest that can recline backwards. The seat height should adjust to position each employee's forearms comfortably to the height of their desk, then if your employees feet dangle, you can provide a footrest for them to prevent pressure on their legs.
This style of chair can accommodate most employees so their arms and hands can comfortably rest in front of their keyboard as they work at their desk. If your employees chairs are too high, too low, or don't have the right lumbar or arm support, you can lose work time due to employee health problems from their improper office chairs. They may experience tension and pain in their shoulders, back, and arms, and may also suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome.
Acquire Live Plants
In addition to workstation furniture, be sure your office has a variety of live, potted plants. Placing live plants throughout your office environment can boost employee productivity and create a calm and relaxing environment. Plants also help clean the air to remove toxins in the air, and can reduce the occurrence of illness in your office.
